I generally don't like shopping or buying things, but after my previous car failed, I spent some time looking for a good replacement, saw Kia make good engineering decisions regarding sustainability, and enjoyed my experience leasing here.
I got an EV6, I've had it for a week so I'm obviously biased about it, but I really enjoy the car so far, I don't know what servicing will look like but I hope it's as great as their sales. I was in the market looking for a small sporty sedan but didn't like many of the interiors or consoles that I found, they felt like they were trying to take away the driving experience in favor of simplicity.
The EV6 brings some of it back to the EV space, it's a bit bigger than what I was looking for, but still relatively small, like a hatchback, and fun to drive. Inside, I like that it is a modern balance of a retro look, so I chose it anyway because it was the best I had seen in my price range. That is to say, I spent a lot of time looking, I think Kia is doing great things at an affordable price, and Oakland Kia is a great representation of that. I had the best experience today! I got my car several months ago at San leandro Kia. I cannot say I got the best help several months ago when they delivered it to me. I had no tutorial when I picked it up and I have been driving around basically fumbling around with the dash functions. When daylight savings rolled around a few weeks ago I could Not for the life of me change the clock. I called member support and the woman couldn’t tell me how to solve this problem. She suggested I go to the dealership. Imagine that! So I went over to Oakland Kia and asked for help!
This is where the best part begins! I had the pleasure of meeting Wally Nawabi. What a guy. He sat in the car with me ( luckily it was close to closing) and he was not too busy…he sat in the car with me and oriented me to the whole interior! Who knew there was a heated steering wheel!!!!

Dante was a GREAT salesman he help me find what I needed. Only downside is my car that I traded in, needed to be paid off and the bank hasn’t received a check in 3 weeks from getting the car. And now I’m getting a go around on a check tracking number and where the check was sent to. My previous loan company took out a payment for me to pay a car I don’t even own anymore ?!? Called Kia multiple times and last time I called I got told “ I’m helping other people I can’t just stop what I’m doing” but I’ve been asking for two days now. Priorities are not straight.
Lesson to be learned. I should have read the reviews before I came to this dealership. I recently purchase a used Porsche from this dealership. Test drive the car, negotiate a good price for the car and the trade in. But when they hand me the key to drive off. The battery low light on the car came on. The sales lady told me “no worries, that’s just the key fob” and send me on my way.
When I got home I swap the key fob battery immediately and notice the battery low warning sign it’s still there. Next day I took it to my mechanic. They found out the break pad was lower than 20%. And yes the battery need to be replaced.
So I called the sales manager, they agree to replace the battery. Then send me to speak to their service manager. It has been 16 days now. Nobody ever respond back to me.
Cars are 2nd biggest purchase in life. Buying a new car should be an happy experience. But these folks didn’t do that. I felt I been hustle by these folks from the moment, I step in the dealership. They shouldn’t be doing business, if they have no business ethics. At this moment, I am tired of dealing with them. But it’s not too late for you!
General Manager James was helpful and courteous and worked hard to get me the best financing offer for my lease purchase. I have worked with Oakland Kia to purchase my last two Kia Niro HPEV. Love to drive this car, the gas mileage is insanely good. I drive from a distance to get my vehicle serviced at Kia of Oakland as well, they are always top notch.
